A day after doctors sought support from separatists to protest against fake drug scam in the Valley,Hurriyat hardline chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani has called for a complete shutdown on April 20.

Geelani on Tuesday demanded that action be taken against those involved in the scam and a FIR be lodged against former health minister Sham Lal Sharma. This is the first time that Geelani has called for a shutdown over a public issue.

On Monday, the Doctors Association Kashmir DAK urged the Hurriyat to call for a bandh in Kashmir. Hurriyat has a mandate in Kashmir so we urge them to call for a bandh against this crime in Kashmir, president of DAK,Nissar-ul-Hassan,had said.

Two weeks ago the fake drug scam was unravelled in the Valley after the state drug department revealed that an antibiotic drug,Maximizane 625 mg,manufactured by Parenterals Vill,Himachal Pradesh, and supplied by a Jammu-based distributor Lifeline Pharmaceuticals, was spurious.

The DAK has also filed a PIL in the high court and are planning to bring a criminal case against Sham Lal Sharma.
