DGCEI files cases on Rs 300 cr tax evasion

The total evasion estimated is over Rs 300 crore,a finance ministry statement said.

The Directorate General of Central Excise Intelligence DGCEI has booked a case of service tax evasion against Delhi-based Shiv Vani Oil and gas exploration services and sub-contractors of Lamp;T Construction. The total evasion estimated is over Rs 300 crore,a finance ministry statement said.

An official said that the service tax department had been analysing tax data from all service tax assessees for the last three years and had initiated inquiries against them.

The statement said that searches were conducted in premise of several sub-contractors of Lamp;T construction in Chennai,Kolkata,Coimbatore and Bhubaneswar. The total service tax evasion by them is estimated to be around

Rs 100 crore.

Shiv Vani,which is engaged in the business of providing services related to exploration and exploitation of oil and gas,with main clients being ONGC and Oil India,admitted that due to financial constraints it had not deposited service tax to the government,the statement said adding that the estimated evasion of service tax is more than Rs 200 crore.
