It was on a weekday at Mumbai’s Hard Rock Cafe that Arjun Ravi,co-founder of NH7 Weekender — one of the most popular indie music festivals in India — came across the Kolkata-based band,The Supersonics. Ravi loved their punk rock-meets-pop sound,interesting bass lines,quick riffing and lyrics about idiosyncrasies of Kolkata,and decided to make the band a part of NH7 Roadkill tour.

“Roadkill is a platform for young indie bands with a fresh sound to embark upon a back-to-back tour. A lot of wonderful indie bands,who are not from Delhi,Mumbai or Bangalore,do not get the opportunity and finances to tour. This way,they can showcase their music to newer audiences,” says Ravi,about the concept that will choose one fresh band every two months.

Ananda Sen,the lead vocalist of the band,believes that it is practically impossible for a small band to tour like this on its own. “It could not get better than this. As it is,Kolkata is so detached from rest of the indie scene,” says Sen.

Ravi promises that the audience will not encounter a Pentagram or an Indian Ocean in this gig.

“If it’s jaw-dropping,young and fresh,it will be a part of Roadkill,” he says. We will be tuning in.
