2012 in fashion will also be about the timeless and classic Chanel black jacket. An abiding symbol of sophistication and taste, the garment is seen as one of the biggest influences on fashion across the decades. The house of Chanel is now in a process of regenerating interest in its iconic jacket. As part of a roving exhibition,a tour called ‘The Little Black Jacket’ which wound up in Tokyo last month will visit eight countries. It will showcase 113 photographs by Chanel’s creative director Karl Lagerfeld. The influential designer, also a curious photographer shot a range of women wearing the jacket. One among them is artist Yoko Ono,really a rare treat.
The image you see here is of model Joan Smalls. I found it in a related story on Women’s Wear Daily (WWD). Apparently,Chanel is also planning displays of jackets from its Paris-Bombay collection in the windows of its New York boutiques. Later this year,a book also called The Little Black Jacket: Chanel’s Classic revisited by Karl Lagerfeld and Carine Roitfeld (a Steidl publication) will be released. While researching it,I found this video on The Making of: The Little Black Jacket…http://chanel-news.chanel.com/en/collector/making-of-the-little-black-jacket/
Do see it. The photo shoots done with more than a hundred celebsartists, singers, rock stars happened in Cannes,in New York and Paris. Among the stars are glamour girls Sarah Jessica Parker and Laetitia Casta who wore the jacket in their own way. I love Parker’s style. She wore it as a headgear with a crown to hold it up!! Wow.
