The Centre on Tuesday extended the ceasefire with the outlawed National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) for six more months. The move comes despite Assam CM Tarun Gogois opposition.
The ceasefire that has been extended periodically since October 2004,had lapsed on December 31,with Gogoi opposing it in view of the NDFBs alleged involvement in the serial blasts in Guwahati and three other towns.
The NDFB had last month expelled its founder Ranjan Daimary and installed a new chairman. While many NDFB cadres have been staying in designated camps for over a year now,the Government has complained that the group has been flouting the ceasefire rules by carrying arms and extorting people.
