In the backdrop of the B S Yeddyurappa government intensifying its campaign against Karnataka Governor H R Bhardwaj, the Centre on Friday evening convened a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs CCPA to discuss the issue.

Sources indicated that the meeting held at the Prime Ministers residence was inconclusive because of key alliance members, including NCP chief and Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar and DMK representative Dayanidhi Maran, being absent.

According to the sources, the CCPA was to take a view on the implications of the Centres response to the Governors communication relating to imposition of Article 356 in Karnataka in the light of the recent Supreme Court judgment quashing the disqualification of 16 MLAs.
