CBI gets transit remand of BJP MP

A city court on Wednesday granted a two-day transit remand to the CBI to take BJP MP Dinubhai Boghabhai Solanki to Ahmedabad. Solanki was arrested by the CBI Tuesday in connection with the murder of RTI activist Amit Jethwa.

The CBI told Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Lokesh Sharma that Solanki was actively involved in the conspiracy behind Jethwas murder. He was arrested after his answers during the probe were not satisfactory and pointed to his involvement in the crime,the CBI told the court. Solanki has been booked for murder and criminal conspiracy.

The CBI asked for his transit custody so that he can be taken to Ahmedabad for further interrogation into the case. According to the CBI,Solanki will be produced in a court in Ahmedabad on Thursday. Solankis nephew and five others have been arrested in the case so far.

Jethwa was shot dead on July 20,2010,14 days after he filed RTI applications and a PIL against illegal mining in the Gir forest region. After the Gujarat Police police gave a clean chit to him,Jethwas father approached the Gujarat High Court,which handed over the probe to the CBI.
