Canadas Parliament Hill and Montreals Metro were among the targets to be hit by the al-Qaeda linked plotters arrested by the police here,as searches were mounted countrywide to nab more suspects.
The three arrested,including 30-year-old Iranian Hiva Alizadeh and India-born Misbahuddin Ahmed,wanted to hit powerful places in the hearts of the Canadians,said former top Royal Canadian Mounted Police officer Michel Juneau-Katsuya.
Security personnel took into custody five more people. But they said that most of those detained were being held for questioning and had not been charged.
Canadian Police have arrested a man on suspicion of terrorist activities,but released him due to lack of evidence. Police said the suspect was arrested in Ottawa as part of standard operating procedures after carrying out a search warrant.
There are now eight suspects in the alleged terror plot to bomb,the Ottawa Citizen has reported. The Citizen has learnt the team carrying out the probe,known as Project Samossa,has now identified an eighth conspirator in the homegrown terrorist bomb plot against the countrys seat of government and coalition troops in Afghanistan.
