Avalanches kill at least 28 in Afghanistan

KABUL: Avalanches on a mountain pass north of Kabul have killed at least 28 people,with another 1,500 stranded in their vehicles on snow-blocked roads,Afghan officials said Tuesday. The Afghan Defence Ministry said another 70 people have been injured as the military and police continued rescue efforts. The avalanches took place Monday following heavy snows in the Salang Pass that links IKabul with the city of Mazar-i-Sharif. President Hamid Karzai ordered authorities to provide aid to those in need.

Jacksons doctor pleads not guilty

LOS ANGELES: Conrad Murray,the personal physician of Michael Jackson,pleaded not guilty before a Los Angeles court after being charged with involuntary manslaughter in connection with the singers death. If convicted Murray,the last person to see the King of Pop alive on June 25,faces possible maximum four-year in prison. The doctor was released on bail at a surety of 75,000.

Nepal to probe media barons killing

KATHMANDU: Nepal government has constituted a judicial panel to probe the killing of controversial media tycoon Jameem Shah,who allegedly had links to ISI and underworld don Dawood Ibrahim. The five-member panel headed by former Chief Justice Govinda Parajuli includes representatives from the Police,National Investigation Department and security experts. Police has so far arrested 20 people in the case.

Google warns site to stop using logo

SHANGHAI: Google Inc has warned a Chinese search website from using a logo that bears a close resemblance to its own. Goojjes home page is adorned with a Google-styled logo and the familiar paw print logo of Chinas top home-grown search engine,Baidu Inc.
