DAMASCUS: Hamas claimed on Friday that Israeli agents assassinated one of the Palestinian militant groups veteran operatives in a killing allegedly carried out last week in Dubai,and vowed to retaliate. The militant group identified its slain figure as Mahmoud al-Mabhouh,one of the founders of Hamass military wing. Talal Nassar,an official in Hamass media office in Damascus,said al-Mabhouh had been poisoned and electrocuted in his hotel room in Dubai. In a statement on Hamass Palestinian Information Center website,the group pledged to retaliate for this Zionist crime at the appropriate time and place.
US may move site of 9/11 trial from NY
WASHINGTON: Facing mounting pressure from New York politicians concerned about costs and security,the Obama administration on Thursday began considering moving the trial of the chief organiser of the September 11 terrorist attacks out of Manhattan,administration officials said. The dispute over a trial location,touched off when New York Mayor Michael R Bloomberg complained of costs and disruption,threatened to reopen the divisive question of how those accused of plotting the murder of more than 3,000 Americans should be brought to justice.

Wave of attacks kill 15 in Somalia
MOGADISHU: Somali insurgents sparked the heaviest day of fighting in the capital in months on Friday,launching simultaneous attacks on government forces and peacekeepers that killed at least 15 people,residents and a medical official said. A spokesman for the Islamic insurgency said the early morning attacks on multiple government bases and African Union peacekeeping troops were a response to a plan for peacekeepers and the government to wrest back control of Mogadishu. The fighting was a response to the so-called government8230; trying to intimidate us by saying that they will take control of the whole capital, Sheikh Ali Mohamoud Rage said.
