HONG KONG: An estimated 80,000 people from Hong Kong marched Sunday in honour of eight locals killed in a bus hijacking in Manila,denouncing the Philippine government for botching the rescue operation. The crowd gathered at an urban park in a short ceremony honouring the dead before setting off on a march to the financial district. About 80,000 people took part.

Spain: Man held for jihad recruitment

MADRID: The Spanish police arrested a Moroccan man in the southeast of the country on suspicion of having links to Islamic terror groups and of recruiting jihad fighters,officials said Sunday. The Interior Ministry said Faical Errai,26,was arrested Friday in Poble Nou de Benitachell town. Errai is suspected of being responsible for a pro-jihad website,of recruiting insurgents in Afghanistan,Chechnya and Pakistan.

4th suspect arrested in Canada terror plot

TORONTO: The Canadian police have arrested a fourth suspect in the al-Qaeda linked terror plot traced to Pakistan,Iran and Dubai. The unidentified man was taken into custody on Friday following a week that saw two Ottawa men,Hiva Alizadeh and India-born Misbahuddin Ahmed as well as Ontario doctor Khurram Syed Sher,28,being arrested. The fourth man was on bail Saturday for a first charge that cannot be reported,then rearrested on a new charge.

South Koreas PM-in-waiting quits

SEOUL: The man nominated to be South Koreas next Prime Minister announced his withdrawal on Sunday amid a mounting scandal over alleged misconduct while he was a provincial governor. Two others nominated for ministerial posts also offered their resignations. Kim Tae-Ho,47,was put forward for Prime Minister three weeks ago as part of a Cabinet reshuffle by President Lee Myung-Bak.

Gurkha regiment in Britain may be axed

LONDON: The Gurkha regiment,part of the British Army for almost 200 years,may be among those axed unless the Ministry of Defences demands for more money are answered,The Observer reported. The report said costs of running the Gurkha regiment added to the sense that the regiment might be axed.

Indonesian volcano erupts after 400 yrs

JAKARTA: A volcano in western Indonesia spewed hot lava early Sunday in its first eruption in 400 years. Mount Sinabung in North Sumatra province started rumbling a few days ago and the minor morning eruption has mostly stopped. Up to 10,000 people have been evacuated.

Dr Conrad Murray,the Thriller hitmakers physician,has been charged with involuntary manslaughter and his lawyers plan to challenge Jacksons autopsy,which declared that his death was caused due to an overdose of the sedative Propofol. The lawyers will argue the King of Pop died from the use of recreational drugs,reported News Of The World online.

The Madrid native wed his bride at the Virgen del Carmen church in the posh resort town of Marbella,Spain.
