Gujjars hold dharna over quota issue
JAIPUR: Demanding five per cent reservation for the community in government jobs,a faction of Rajasthan Gujjar Arakshan Samiti on Wednesday held a dharna at all 33 district headquarters,demanding that all cases registered against Gujjar leaders in the past be withdrawn,those in jail should be released and adequate cash compensation be provided to the victims and kin of the Gujjar agitation in past three years,as promised by the government.
Ukhand to set up cow science institute
DEHRADUN: Uttarakhand government will set up a world class institute for promoting cow science and facilitating research on related subjects,especially cow urine which is known to have many medicinal values. The institute will facilitate research on various subjects related to bovines,and will produce 10,000 litres of distilled concentrate of cow urine per day,state Chief Secretary N S Napalchyal said.
Ex-Haryana IGs bail plea dismissed
YAMUNANAGAR: After two adjournments,a local court on Wednesday dismissed the anticipatory bail plea of former Haryana IG Mahendra Singh Ahlawat,who is facing charges for molesting a female lawyer about eight years ago. The complainant lawyer Arvinder Kaur had lodged a complaint against Ahlawat for harassing her sexually when he was SP Yamunanagar in the year 2002.
Three cousins drown in pond
JAIPUR: Three cousin brothers drowned in a pond at Kalu village of Bikaner district,police said on Wednesday. The incident occurred on Tuesday when one of them was trying to fill a bottle and slipped,with the other two drowning while trying to save him. The deceased were identified as Seetaram,12,Malaram,6,and Pawan Kumar,5.
Lone student passes Std X exam in school
BATALA: A government school in Gurdaspur district has earned the dubious distinction of having the lowest pass percentage in the class X exam conducted by the Punjab State Education Board PSEB as only one out of its 139 examinees managed to pass. Similarly,only three of total 140 students passed the class XII examination.
Man climbs down tower after 33 hrs
DEHRADUN: A man who had climbed a 150-feet high tower near the Vidhan Sabha here on Tuesday in protest,came down after 33 hours following an assurance from the government. Ratan Singh Rawat had climbed the BSNL tower in support of a demand to take hundreds of employees into Uttarakhand Ayurvedic department.
