4 school boys drown in Orissa

BARIPADA ORISSA: Four school boys drowned in a river after Holi revelry in Orissas Mayurbhanj district on Sunday,police said. The two students of 10th standard in Kerala Public School at Rairangpur,about 85 km from here,were taking bath in Kharkhai river after celebrating the festival when they got swept away by the tide,police said. The four were identified as Kamal Saraiwal,Vishal Khandelwal,Rahul Santalia and Sumit Agarwal.

Debt-ridden farmer ends life in Nashik

NASHIK: A 35-year-old farmer from Pingalwadi village in the district allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself in his field on Saturday,police said. Dhananjay Eknath Mapari ended his life apparently because he had failed to repay loans worth Rs 4 lakh,taken from credit society,police said.

Eight killed in Bengal accidents

HOWRAH/BERHAMPUR: Eight persons were killed and two injured in two separate truck accidents in Howrah and Murshidabad districts on Sunday,according to police. While six persons were killed in Howrah district,two died in Murshidabad district. Six persons were killed at Dhulagarh in Howrah district when a stonechips-laden truck in which they were riding overturned on National Highway 6 early on Sunday. All the victims,aged between 20 and 30 years,hailed from Betai village. In a separate accident,two persons were killed when their car hit a truck at Mankara on NH 34 on Sunday,the police said.

Low-intensity quake off Andamans

PUNE: A low-intensity earthquake,measuring 4.8 on Richter scale,was recorded off the west coast of Andaman Islands on Saturday,Met office sources said. Epicentre of the tremor was at latitude 13.1 degree north and longitude 92.4 degree east,off west coast of Andamans,and it was noticed at 6.16 pm.

Two brothers held for killing deer

JAMMU: Two brothers have been arrested for allegedly killing a deer in the forest area in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir,police said on Sunday. The two brothers,Abdul Gani and Mohmmad Sharief,shot dead a deer with their 12-bore gun in Loran forest belt in Poonch district on Saturday night. On the complaint of the people,police and wildlife officials raided their house and recovered the carcass of the deer. The gun was also seized.
