Roshan Jamals sentence now 6 yrs
Mumbai: Hearing an appeal filed by Mumbai resident Roshan Jamal Khan against the eight-and-a-half years prison sentence handed to him by a Spanish anti-terrorism court in December 2009,the Supreme Court of Spain recently reduced his sentence to six years. On December 14,2009,Khan had been convicted along with 10 Pakistani men for belonging to a terrorist group that allegedly planned to bomb the Barcelona Metro.

Regarding export of uranium to India,the policy of Australia is clear8230; We will only supply uranium to countries that are signatories to Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and have signed a bilateral agreement with Australia, Australian Minister for Resource and Energy Martin Ferguson said after his meeting with visiting External Affairs Minister S M Krishna.
Court acquits 3 in IC-814 hijack case
MUMBAI: A Mumbai court on Wednesday acquitted three men of the charges of financing the December 1999 hijack of Indian Airlines flight IC-814. Abdul Latif,Bhopalman Yusuf Khan and Mushtaq Ahmed were charged with looting Rs 7 lakh from a bank in Borivali,Mumbai,on October 6,1999 and using part of the loot to finance the hijack. Latif and Khan had been sentenced to life in jail for their role in the hijack by a court in Delhi in 2008 and so will remain in prison. Ahmed will be freed.

SHILLONG: The Army court trying Lt Gen P K Rath in the Sukna land scam on Wednesday rejected his petition to examine realtor Dilip Agarwal,saying the defence had been given the opportunity to put questions to Agarwal when he was a court witness. Rath had petitioned the court to recall and examine Agarwal to clarify certain missing links that may have a direct bearing on the case.
Cant unseat MLA for minor lapse: SC
NEW DELHI: A legislator cannot be unseated for minor procedural lapses in holding an election unless it is proved that the lapse materially affected the poll result,the Supreme Court ruled on Wednesday. Without showing that non-compliance had materially affected the result of the election would not be sufficient to declare it void, the SC said while deciding a plea that sought to unseat BJP MLA from Dibrugarh,Assam,Prasanta Phukan.
SBI manager held for taking bribe
NEW DELHI: The CBI has arrested a deputy manager of a State Bank of India branch in Patna for taking a bribe of Rs 30,000. The accused,Ajay Kumar Sinha,had demanded a bribe of Rs 1.20 lakh from a Patna resident in return for favourable processing a loan of Rs 25 lakh in his favour,the CBI said. Following a complaint by the man,the CBI laid a trap and arrested Sinha while he was taking Rs 30,000,the first installment of the bribe.
