Hooda,Digvijay escape unhurt

BHIWANI: Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Congress leader Digvijay Singh on Sunday escaped unhurt after one of the tyres of their aircraft got stuck in mud while taxiing at the Chang airstrip,some 10 km from here. As the aircraft was taxiing on the runway,one of its wheels got stuck in mud,forcing immediate stoppage of the plane,officials here said. Both Hooda and Singh are safe. Hooda was in the city to unveil a statue of former chief minister B D Gupta here.

Cop transferred after Maoists escape

ROURKELA: An inspector-in-charge of Sundargarh district,Subash Raiguru was transferred while two constables,Pradip Agasti and Basanta Patra,were placed under suspension for dereliction of duty on Sunday,following escape of two Maoist sympathisers from police custody. Two Maoist sympathisers managed to escape from Lahunipara police station on Sunday. They were arrested on Saturday in the highway robbery case in which the Maoists had allegedly looted Rs 49 lakh from Bonai subdivision on August 16.

Rape accused set free by panchayat

MUZAFFARNAGAR: An elderly man,who allegedly raped a seven-year-old girl in the district,was set free by a community panchayat even after holding him guilty. Sixty-year-old Noor Mohd,a shop keeper,was found guilty in an attempt to rape case by the panchayat,a report here said. However,the man expressed regret over the incident and the panchayat then ordered him to pass one year in Tabligi Jamat by preaching religion. Both the parties agreed on a written compromise and informed the police about the matter.

Principal gets 10-yr RI for raping student

DARBHANGA: A local court of Bihar has awarded ten years rigorous imprisonment to a primary school principal for allegedly raping a ten-year-old student in 2007. Additional district and sessions judge four Jitendra Kumar held the principal of Malpatty Primary School Mohammad Shakeer guilty of raping the student and sentenced him to undergo ten years rigorous imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs 5,000. The girls s father had lodged an FIR with Kamtaul police station on December 8,2007.

Couple cremated on single pyre

Jammu: A couple,who allegedly committed suicide by jumping into the Chenab river after their parents opposed their relationship,were on Sunday cremated on a single pyre as per the wishes of their families. Narinder Kumar,23,of Kastigarh village in Doda and Sunita,21,took their lives on September 2 after their parents did not agree to their marriage,the police said. Their bodies were later fished out from the river. The bodies were consigned to flames on a single pyre as per the wishes of both the families.

Police team attacked,13 criminals flee

Parli Vaijnath Maharashtra: Over 500 people allegedly attacked a police team,injured seven constables and helped escape 13 persons held by the police on criminal charges,officials said here on Sunday. A 70 policemen-strong team,led by DSP Akhilesh Kumar Sinh,had gone to Kamkar Wadi village in Osmanabad district to arrest a criminal and his gang on Saturday. As the police were leaving after arresting 15 persons,they were attacked by a 500-strong mob,comprising relatives and aides of the criminals,and took away all the 15. The police,however,nabbed two. The seven injured policemen were admitted to a hospital.
