KOLKATA: West Bengal CM Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee,speaking at a function at Bethune College here on Thursday,said the history of freedom struggle lays emphasis on the Congress-led movement and denies the revolutionaries their due place in history. The history which is taught has ignored revolutionaries like Pritilalata Waddedar,Kalpna Dutta,Benoy Badal and Dinesh. The history is fragmented where the youth is told only about Satryagrah,non-cooperation and non-violence, he said.

Drunk man sleeps in morgue,scares staff

THRISSUR Kerala: A drunk person fell asleep in a hospital mortuary here on Onam night,frightening women staffers who saw him rising from the inquest table when they came to fetch a stretcher to move in a cadaver. The incident occurred at the Government Medical College Hospital at Mulankunnathkavu near here three days ago. The man was handed over to the police,which let him off after registering a trespassing case.

Warrant against Karnataka minister

BELLARY: A court here on Thursday issued a fresh non-bailable warrant against state Tourism Minister and Mining Minister G Janardhana Reddy for allegedly destroying boundary marks on the Karnataka-Andhra Pradesh borders for illegal mining. Reddy,facing allegations of illegal mining,has not responded to the earlier 8 NBWs ever since the first one was issued by the Sandur Judicial Magistrate First Class JMFC court in December last.

School vice-principal jailed for rape

AGARTALA: The vice-principal of a school in West Tripura district was on Thursday remanded in judicial custody for two weeks by a court on charges of raping a teacher. Singh was arrested after the teacher lodged an FIR saying she had been raped in his official residence on March 7 and threatened with dire consequences if the incident was made public. The victim was suffering from depression following the incident and consulted Women8217;s Commission of Tripura and filed the FIR on its advice.

NSCN major killed,5 apprehended

GUWAHATI: A self-styled Major of the NSCNIM was killed and five others were apprehended in an encounter that took place between the militants and security forces in Mon district of Nagaland on Thursday. Three AK-47 rifles,mortars,grenades were recovered from the militants.
