Jyoti Basus condition improves
KOLKATA: Condition of senior CPM leader Jyoti Basu,who was admitted to the ICU of Kolkatas AMRI Hospital with pneumonia,improved slightly on Sunday though he continues to be on oxygen and respiratory support. Basu continues to be administered antibiotics. He was given a unit of blood Saturday night and he is still on by-pass and oxygen support,a senior official of the hospital said.
Two men enter into wedlock in MP
BHOPAL: In perhaps the first such instance in Madhya Pradesh,two men Israr,25,and Ayaz,30 entered into wedlock at Batti Chouraha in Bhopal on Saturday. Through marriage we have taken our love to its proper destination. We have not committed either a crime or a sin and no one should have any objection to it, the couple said.
Jawan ends life,wife critical
MUZAFFARNAGAR: Armyman Alkesh,26,and wife Sudesh,23,an engineering student,consumed poison after Alkeshs parents tried to separate them as the girl belonged to their gotra sub-caste. The couple were rushed to hospital where Alkesh died,police said. Sudesh is battling for life. The couple had eloped on December 28 and later got married in Hardwar.
Eunuch mayors election challenged
SAGAR MP: Eunuch Kamla Buas election as Sagar mayor has been challenged in a local court on grounds that she was neither a member of scheduled caste community nor had she furnished adequate proof in this regard to the election officer. Former Burhanpur Municipal Commissioner Mahendra Rai said in his petition challenging the election that the post of Sagar mayor was reserved for a woman of scheduled caste community.
Six Afghans held with fake passports
CHENNAI: Six Afghans were detained at Chennais Anna International Airport Sunday for carrying fake passports.
Airport officials said all six passengers had come from Nepal and were about to board a flight to Malaysia.
