Refused car,youth kills self
HATHRAS: Upset over his fathers refusal to buy him a car,a youth shot himself on Wednesday,Uttar Pradesh police said. The incident occurred in Hathras Gate area in UPs Jogia village,they said. Anil Paurush,24,shot himself with a country-made pistol after his father refused him the car,the police added.
Body replaced during autopsy
JAUNPUR: Tension arose on Wednesday at the local crematorium here after family members of a deceased woman alleged that her body got replaced,officials said. The family of Asha Devi accused the city hospital staff of negligence,alleging that Devis body was replaced at the post-mortem department,they said.
Trust conducts inventory at Sai Babas ashram
BANGALORE: The Sathya Sai Baba Trust,along with Bangalore Urban District Deputy Commissioner on Wednesday conducted an inventory of the wealth and assets of late Sathya Sai Baba at his ashram near Whitefield,Bangalore. The inventory at the Sai Baba Brindavan ashram was conducted under heavy police bandobast,police said. This is the fourth inventory being conducted at governments instance after the spiritual gurus death.The most recent inventory process was conducted in Puttaparthi in Andhra Pradesh,where 34.5 kg gold,430 kg silver besides cash worth Rs 1,90,53,899 was found,media coordinator of the trust A Anantharaman said.
Tyre burst: AI plane skids off runway
KANPUR: An Air India plane with 54 passengers and five crew members skidded off the runway on Wednesday after a tyre burst while landing in rain. However,all passengers and crew are safe. The Canadair Regional Jets nosewheel got stuck in mud when the 70-seater plane skidded and came to a screeching halt,during touchdown at the Chakeri airport,Air India sources said,adding that the runway had a low width. The flight will not be sent to Kolkata and a team of technicians will be inspecting the plane, Airport Manager A K Sarin said.
DRDO to test Prahaar missile today
BALASORE: The Defence Research and Development Organisation DRDO is all set to conduct a trial of the new indigenously-developed quick reaction,short-range Prahaar missile from the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur-on-sea on Thursday. As a safety measure,arrangements have been made to temporarily evacuate people within a 2-km radius, an official said. The multi-directional and auto-loading Prahaar can launch different kinds of missiles. The technology being used is indigenous,making it cost-effective, Director General of DRDO V K Saraswat said.The missile may be used by the Indian Army as well as the Air Force.
Navy Chief inspects Russian projects
NEW DELHI: Amidst reports of more delays in key projects commissioned to Russian shipyards,Navy Chief Admiral Nirmal Verma made a first-hand assessment of all projects during a six-day official visit to Russia. Verma,who visited Vladivostok,Moscow,St Petersburg and Kaliningrad,held discussions with senior Russian officials and observed that ongoing projects have reached critical stages of maturity. However,a three-four month delay has been indicated in the Talwar class ships that are under construction. Verma was also informed that the Admiral Gorshkov aircraft carrier is shaping up for preliminary sea trials that will commence shortly.
