Four tribals lynched for suspected theft
BARIPADA ORISSA: Four tribals,suspected to be involved in a theft,were lynched and three others injured by a group of angry villagers in Nichuapada forest area of Mayurbhanj district on Monday,police said. Over 40 villagers armed with sticks and iron rods attacked the Lodha tribals for their alleged involvement in a theft at a neighbouring village,they said.
Bihar boat tragedy toll rises to 38
BUXAR BIHAR: The death toll in the boat tragedy here mounted to 38 with 16 more bodies being fished out from Ganga on Monday while the search has been called off. Of the 38 victims,25 were women and children,Director General of Police Neelmani told PTI. The search was called off as no one else was missing,he said. An estimated 42 people were sailing in the boat from adjoining Balia in UP to Dalupur in Bihar when it was caught in a whirlpool and sank in Brahmapur police station area here last evening.
Bail denied by court,Amit Shah moves HC
AHMEDABAD: Calling the observations of the special CBI court while rejecting his bail petition as unneccessary and without any evidence,former Minister of State Home,Amit Shah,has approached Gujarat High Court to get the order of the lower court quashed and to get bail in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh Fake Encounter case. Navy Chief on 4-day Israel visit
NEW DELHI: Navy Chief Admiral Nirmal Verma has started a four day visit to Israel where he will meet top military leaders and will discuss the progress of the new defence systems that have been ordered by India. The Navy Chief,who will also call on Defence Minister Ehud Barak,will take an update on the missile defence systems ordered by India as well as the rotary wing UAV being developed for the Indian Navy. He will also visit the Haifa cemetery,where hundreds of Indian soldiers who died fighting the first world war are buried.
CM returns cheque by mafia man
BURDWAN WB: A cheque handed over to West Bengal CM Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee by a man said to be belonging to the coal mafia for construction of a college building in Burdwan district will be returned. Joginder Singh Upal alias Kala Singh had handed over the cheque of Rs 1,11,101 towards construction of a building of the Rashbehari Ghosh Mahavidyalaya to the CM at a function at Ukrib area on Sunday.
Tribals ill after high fluoride exposure
RAIPUR: Several tribals including children fell ill and developed bone diseases after drinking groundwater,containing high fluoride levels,in Bastar district of Chhattisgarh,officials said. Following this,ten hand pumps found to have water with high fluoride content,out of the total 32 installed in eight areas of the village,have been sealed and five officials have been suspended,they said.
Mother jumps into well with children
NASHIK: Two children died after their mother jumped into a well along with them after being fed up with the alleged harassment from her in-laws in Janori village here,police said on Monday. The incident occurred yesterday,when Mohini Wagh 25 jumped into a well along with her nine-month-old son Raju and daughter Rituja 4,they said. Villagers rushed to the spot and rescued Mohini but could not save her two children,they said.
