Army lodges protest with Pak over ceasefire violation
JAMMU: The Indian Army has lodged a strong protest with its Pakistani counterpart over ceasefire violation and shelling of forward posts along the LoC in Poonch district. A flag meeting was held on Wednesday evening at the commanding officers level at Chakan-Da-Bagh LoC crossing point in Poonch. Army officers lodged a strong protest with Pakistani authorities over ceasefire violation and unprovoked heavy shelling and firing, an Army officer at 16 Corps Headquarters said.
Crude bomb in Nagpur court,none hurt
NAGPUR: A crude bomb went off in a room meant for lawyers in the District Court premises here on Thursday. No injuries were caused to anyone,with the police concluding it as a prank by mischievous elements. However,the incident caused sensation since it occurred on a very sensitive day when the Ayodhya judgment was to be pronounced. Coincidentally,the blast occurred around 3.30 pm when the verdict was being announced in Lucknow.
Accused sentenced,fined in Maulvi death
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In the 17-year-old murder of progressive Muslim scholar Chekannoor Maulvi,the CBI designate court in Kochi on Thursday sentenced the first accused to double life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh. Eight other accused in the case had been let free by CBI judge S Vijayakumar for want of evidence.
CID raids four mining companies
BELLARY: CID officials on Thursday conducted raids at four mining companies and residences of their owners in connection with the disappearance of iron ore from Belekeri port in Karwar. Some documents relating to iron ore exports were seized during the raid,officials said. CID is probing the mystery surrounding the disappearance of more than five lakh tonnes of iron ore from Belekeri port some months ago.
