US security apologises to Praful Patel

NEW DELHI: The US Homeland Security has apologised to Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel who was stopped and questioned by the immigration authorities at the Chicago airport due to an identity mix-up. Patel8217;s name and date of birth matched with that of a person on US8217; watch-list. Patel,who was in Chicago on a private visit was let off after Indian agenices intervened. He later flew to Montreal for an official engagement.

Anderson: CIC asks MEA to release letter

NEW DELHI: Only a few days after directing the External Affairs Ministry to provide information on the alleged safe passage promised to Bhopal gas tragedy accused Warren Anderson in 1984,the Central Information Commission has asked the Ministry to also make public its communication with the CBI in relation to his extradition. Former joint director of the agency B R Lal,who led the probe into the disaster,had claimed that MEA had asked the CBI not to follow through Andersons extradition.

Court reserves order on Shah bail plea

AHMEDABAD: The special CBI court on Monday reserved its order on the bail plea of former minister of state Home,Amit Shah,till October 8. The court reserved the order after the counsels of CBI and Shah completed their arguments with a dramatic turn of events,as Shah8217;s lawyers withdrew the documents and oral arguments related to one of their main grounds for seeking bail retractions of three key witnesses.

Manipur rebel leader dies of lung cancer

GUWAHATI: Achou Toijamba,chairman of the outlawed Kanlei Yawol Kanna Lup KYKL,one of the several insurgent groups of Manipur,passed away in an undisclosed hideout of the outfit outside Imphal on Tuesday. Toijamba 68 was suffering from cancer of the lungs. The KYKL was formed in 1994 following a merger of the Oken faction of UNLF,the Meiraba faction of Prepak and Ibo Pishak faction of Kangleipak Communist Party.

State to revoke PRC for non-Arunachalees

ITANAGAR: The Arunachal Pradesh Cabinet on Wednesday decided to revoke its recent order on granting permanent resident certificate PRC to non-Arunachalees residing in the state. 8220;The Cabinet had decided to revoke the order honouring the public resentment on the issue,8221; Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu told a press conference here on Wednesday.

Fire tender on runway,CM delayed

AGARTALA: An Indigo flight carrying Tripura CM Manik Sarkar was delayed by several hours and a Jetlite flight from Kolkata could not land at the Agartala airport on Wednesday as a fire tender was stranded in the middle of the runway after it developed a snag,official sources said. The Jetlite flight had to return to Kolkata. The fire tender snag took several hours to repair.
