Kamal to give IIFA awards a miss

CHENNAI: Barely hours after a fringe Tamil outfit,calling itself the May 17 Movement,staged a protest outside actor Kamal Haasans residence demanding his non-participation in the latest edition of IIFA awards,the National Award winning actor and Padma awardee announced his plans to not take part in the event in Colombo next month. The actor,however,maintained that he had taken the decision much earlier and it had nothing to do with the protest.

Truck mows down 12 in Assam district

GUWAHATI: At least 12 persons of a group,including six women,were killed on the spot when they were hit by a speeding truck in Goalpara district in Lower Assam,about 70 km west of Guwahati,late on Saturday night. The accident happened on NH-37.

Jawan hurt in firing from across LoC

JAMMU: In yet another ceasefire violation by Pakistan on the Line of Control LoC,Pakistani troops on Sunday targeted two Indian posts in Krishna Ghati sector in Poonch district with rockets and heavy mortars,injuring a jawan. Sources said a few rockets fell two km inside the Indian territory. Defence sources said one jawan,sepoy C Narayran,got splinter injuries in the heavy exchange of fire.

Brigadier General Staff said this is second ceasefire violation in the past week from the Pakistan side.
