Centre-state relations: Panel submits report
NEW DELHI: The Commission on Centre-State Relations on Monday said all issues concerning Article 355 and 356,many a time used by the Central government against states to impose its rule,have been addressed by it. Whatever questions were raised on Article 355 and 356,these were answered, said Justice Madan Mohan Punchhi after submitting the seven-volume report of the Commission to Home Minister P Chidambaram here.
PGI doc found dead,parents allege ragging
CHANDIGARH: A resident doctor of the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research PGIMER here was found dead in his hostel compound under mysterious circumstances on Monday even as his parents alleged that he died due to ragging. The body of Nagendra AV,25,hailing from Bangalore was found in the hostel compound. Nagendra had joined the PGIMER about two months back and was working with blood transfusion medicine department.
Mukul Sangma to be sworn in CM today
SHILLONG: Mukul Sangma was on Monday night elected Congress Legislature Party leader in Meghalaya and would be sworn in as Chief Minister on Tuesday. BHOPAL: In a bid to make people aware about the states skewed sex ratio,Madhya Pradesh has decided to give women officers higher administrative posts in districts where the sex ratio is on the decline,Parliamentary Affairs Minister Narottam Mishra said.
Doctors house raided for aiding Naxals
BURDWAN WB: Police Monday said they raided the residence of Samir Biswas,a doctor in Asansol in Bengals Burdwan suspected of providing medical aid to Maoists,Sunday night and two caretakers of the house Susanta Das and Rajesh Marandi. Biswas was not home at the time of the raid,SP R Rajsekharan said.
Cop shot near Kaziranga,hurt
DIPHU ASSAM: Assistant Sub-inspector Prafulla Bora was seriously wounded when unidentified miscreants shot him near the Kaziranga National Park in Assams Karbi Anglong district on Monday. Police said they suspect either militants or poachers could be involved in the firing.
Haryana police kill panther in Karnal
CHANDIGARH: A panther was shot dead by Karnal police on Monday after it had strayed into a residential colony on Sunday night,injuring eight residents,according to sources. A police team led by Station House Officer Gorakh Pal Rana reached the spot and shot dead the panther. The injured were admitted to the Civil Hospital,Karnal. ENS amp; PTI
Praise for Cong in Mamata reply
NEW DELHI: Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday said that Maoist violence and bandhs had cost Railways Rs 500 crore and said that states have a responsibility to provide security to railway property and passengers. She was replying to the debate on demands for grants for the Railways for 2010-11 in the Lok Sabha.
Referring to a task force headed by Sam Pitroda,Mamata said that use of optical fibres in taking Internet connectivity to villages across the country would make late Rajiv Gandhis vision of modernisation of India come true. On another occasion,she said Soniaji and Manmohanji had guided us functioning of the Railways Ministry. ENS
Country concerned,so Cong concerned
NEW DELHI: Responding to a question on if the party viewed the IPL as a murky entity,Congress spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi on Monday said the country was concerned and so the party was also concerned. Singhvi also parried questions on a Joint Parliamentary Committee JPC probe into the IPLs finances,saying the party stood by Finance Ministers explicit statement in the House on the issue. Rest is speculation. I cannot anticipate what will happen in Parliament, he said.
Probe all aspects of IPL: BJP
NEW DELHI: The BJP on Monday said all aspects of IPL should be probed and relevant details of IPL stake-holding should be brought before the House in this session itself. Unlike other Opposition parties,the BJP,however,did not call for a JPC probe into the affair. It said foreign funds and black money could have found their way into IPL. There are reports that foreign funds and black money from Swiss banks have also been put into it, said Deputy Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Gopinath Munde. He also denied the allegations that BJP leaders had invested in IPL.

PATNA: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Monday said the IPL has more to it than meets the eye but did not comment if the tournament should be banned in wake of the investigations into its financial dealings. There are many other things than cricket8230; it is a commercial venture, Nitish told reporters when asked what he thought about the IPL and the allegations about its finances. He refused to comment on the resignation Shashi Tharoor.
Subramanian Swamy praises PM
