Woman poisons kids,kills self

ARARIA (BIHAR): A woman on Wednesday allegedly committed suicide by consuming pesticide after poisoning her three children in Bihar’s Araria district,police said. The 35-year-old woman first forced her four children,aged between one and seven years,to have pesticide before taking it herself. While the mother and three children died,a girl child survived. Police said the woman resorted to this due to frequent family quarrels.

Ramdev wants Z-plus security

DEHRADUN: Yoga guru Baba Ramdev has requested the Uttarakhand government to provide him with Z-plus security considering his vulnerability to attacks from his opponents. “Baba Ramdev has been exposing the intentions of MNCs in the field of health and beverages,launching a tirade against corruption and establishing Indian tradition and culture. So,he has become a target,” general secretary of Ramdev’s Haridwar-based Patanjali Yogpeeth Acharya Balkrishna said.

Rahman to perform at Nobel concert

OSLO: A R Rahman has joined pop stars Barry Manilow and Jamiroquai in the lineup of artists to perform at the annual Nobel Peace Prize Concert in Oslo. Rahman,who won two Academy awards for his score in Slumdog Millionaire,will feature in the December 11 show honoring this year’s peace laureate,jailed Chinese dissident Liu Xiaobo.

Diwali reception at 10 Downing Street

LONDON: Prime Minister David Cameron hosted a Diwali reception at 10,Downing Street on Tuesday night and hailed the “enormous contribution” of British Indians to Britain. The reception,attended by Indian High Commissioner Nalin Surie and several leading British Indians,saw Cameron lighting a traditional Diwali lamp. The gathering included Indian-origin MPs such as Keith Vaz,Priti Patel and several Indian-origin members of the royal air force.

Teesta accuses SIT of discrediting her

NEW DELHI: Social activist Teesta Setalvad,who is working for the victims of the 2002 Gujarat riots,has moved the SC accusing the Special Investigating Team of “discrediting” her. The affidavit filed by Setalvad,who heads the NGO,Citizen for Peace and Justice,alleged that the SIT headed by former CBI Director R K Raghavan has been summoning and questioning witnesses on the allegation that they were tutored by her.

Inquilabi wife,father-in-law held

JAMMU: Two days after the arrest of Hizbul Mujahideen’s Divisional Commander Mohammad Abdullah Cheechi alias Abdullah Inquilabi from Hauz Khas area in the capital,the J&K police on Wednesday apprehended his wife Shaheed Begum and father-in-law Bashir Bakkarwal from a hideout in border Rajouri district.
