FM leaves for G-20 ministerial in Korea
New Delhi: Finance minister Pranab Mukherjee is leaving on Wednesnight for South Korea to attend the two-day G-20 ministerial which is expected to discuss the ongoing European financial crisis and other issues. The meeting of the finance ministers and central bankers of the G-20 countries,a club of developed and developing nations,would also take up issues concerning the global economic recovery,a release said here.
8.5 pc growth isnt so easy: Pronab Sen
New Delhi: Chief statistician Pronab Sen on Wednesday said it may be difficult to achieve 8.5 per cent economic growth this fiscal as many uncertainties persist. Investments have gone fast,but we have question marks about sustainability. Credit is growing but not in a way that would support an 8.5 per cent GDP acceleration. I think there are still uncertainties and question marks, Sen said when asked whether it is possible to achieve 8.5 per cent growth rate as projected by PM Manmohan Singh.
Warner Bros appoints India licensing agents
New Delhi: Warner Bros Consumer Products WBCP on Wednesday said it has appointed two licensing agents in India En theos Consulting and Dream Theatre who will represent the company across categories like publishing,food and beverages and personal care products. En theos Consulting,headed by Nagarajan Subramanian,will represent WBCP in the hardline,softline and publishing categories,WBCP said in a statement. WBCP is one of the leading licensing and retail merchandising companies globally.
Most firms want tax sops to go green
New Delhi: The majority of Indian companies feel tax incentives from the government are needed to accelerate adoption of energy-efficient business practices,according to a survey. According to the survey by workspace solutions provider Regus,though India has been criticised for its high emission levels,around 30 per cent companies here monitor their carbon footprint. A majority 85 per cent of companies said if the government offered tax incentives to invest in energy-efficient or low-carbon equipment,businesses would significantly accelerate their green investments, the report stated.
Supreme Court to hear Ulip case in July
New Delhi: The Supreme Court will hear the case pertaining to the row over control of Ulips between market watchdog Sebi and insurance regulator Irda next month but may not decide on the controversy over who would regulate these market-linked insurance products. The Supreme Court is in vacation.The transfer petition is likely to be taken up in July, Irda chairman J Hari Narayan said when asked about the progress on resolving its dispute with Sebi over controlling unit-linked insurance products Ulips.
