Sensex falls 157 points on inflation concerns
mumbai: The BSE Sensex fell for the fourth straight day on Thursday,losing 157 points to close at 19,292 amid rising oil prices and food inflation,fanning investor concern over the possibility of further hike in interest rates. Besides,investors settled their positions on the last day of this months derivatives contracts.
Mahindra Satyam to hire 18,000 employees
new delhi: IT firm Mahindra Satyam on Thursday said it plans to hire about 18,000 people during this fiscal. 8220;We have plans of hiring about 18,000 people this year FY8217;12. Over 5,000 are from campuses and the rest are from lateral hiring or recruitment of experienced hands,8221; Mahindra Satyam head recruitment and media Sridhar Maturi said.
Cairn-Vedanta deal: GoM to meet next week
new delhi: A Group of Ministers headed by finance minister Pranab Mukherjee is likely to meet on Monday to vet London-listed mining group Vedanta Resources 9.6 billion acquisition of Cairn India. Besides Mukherjee,the GoM includes oil minister S Jaipal Reddy,law minister M Veerapa Moily,telecom minister Kapil Sibal and Plan panel deputy chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia.
TERC to review trade treaties today
new delhi: Trade and Economic Relations Committee TERC headed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is likely to review today different trade treaties being negotiated by India,including FTA with the European Union. The PM panel is also likely to clear negotiations for India-Australia FTA as recommended by the joint study group.
