The four policemen in Maoist captivity since Sunday are reportedly safe even as the deadline given by Maoists has expired.
Maoists have extended till Thursday 10 am the deadline for releasing their eight jailed commanders,failing which they had threatened to kill the four policemen. The Maoists had earlier set the deadline at Wednesday 4 pm.
The rebels released an audio tape in which S-I Abhay Prasad Yadav was heard appealing to the government to accept the Maoists conditions so that he and the other three cops can be set free.
A combing operation by the joint team of the state police,Bihar Military Police,Special Auxiliary Police and CRPF continued for the third consecutive day after unsuccessful operation in Kodasi hills,a known Maoist den. Bihar DGP Neelmani said: The police would not talk to the Naxals through the media. Our operations would continue as usual.
Meanwhile,Lakhisarai SP and DSP were transferred with immediate effect. Darbhanga SP Rajhit Kumar Mishra took over as the new Lakhisarai SP.
The families of BMP-10 Jamadar Lucas Tete and Havildar Ehsan Ahmed are also in touch with Bihar headquarters from their Jharkhand homes.
Earlier in the day,the Maoist spokesperson from Lakhisarai jungles,Avinash,told local reporters that they had handed over the four policemen to their zonal secretary. Avinash reiterated the demand for releasing eight jailed Naxals and withdrawal of forces as pre-conditions for setting the policemen free.
Families of S-Is Abhay Prasad Yadav and Rupesh Kumar Sinha met CM Nitish Kumar here on Wednesday. Yadavs wife Rajni and three daughters and Rupeshs mother Manju Sinha appealed to the Maoists through the media to set their relatives free. Yadavs daughters,Dhruvswamini,Shalini and Minakashi,all minors,appealed to the CM to save their father. Manju said,I cannot imagine my life without Rupesh,my only son. I hope a mothers tears will melt the ultras hearts. She was admitted to Patna Medical College and Hospital with complaints of chest pain and uneasiness.
