That's it, folks, it's raining that has had the last laugh here in Benoni. Well, what a way to get the breakthrough. India will take any way they came, the way that runchase was going for South Africa. Jorich nudged one onto leg-side, and the ball reached the square-leg, and the fielder threw the ball as he saw Armaan was out of the crease. The ball hit the stumps and ricocheted away, and Amraan tried to sneak a single of that and got himself run out at the striker's end.
It has been smooth sailing so far for the South African batters. They could have definitely done with another fast bowling option seems. Enaan, who is the middle-over enforcer as the leg-spinner, did bowl some good deliveries, but in between all of them also managed to slip in a lot of bad balls.
Since the spinners have come into the attack, there have not been too many wicket-taking deliveries that India has been able to bowl. Yes, Khilan got a wicket in that final over after the powerplay, but since that there has not been a lot of threat that has been put on the batters. This partnership is going pretty well, and it might be time for the Indian skipper consider bringing back Henil Patel or Ambrish for a short, quick burst.

Jorich is playing a nice little innings here for South Africa. He is closing in on a half-century, and if South Africa needs to get close to the target posted by India, they will need him to score a century or match the innings Harvansh has put in for India in the first innings. The difference, though, is that the runs from Jorich are coming from a position of strength at the top of the order.
Leg-spinner Enaan has been brought into the attack by India, and he managed to close out the final delivery of the over with a full toss. It is a tough craft in cricket is leg-spin bowling, and it will be interesting to see how much he can extract on these South African wickets, Enaan.
Khilan Patel has bowled quite well since coming for the Indians here. Ambrish, too, has been tidy. This is the effort which the Indian change bowlers needed to put on to keep the pressure on. It will be interesting to see when Suryavanshi will turn to his leg-spin option, Enan.
With regards to the run rate, South Africa is doing well, but it is the wickets that they have lost one too many. They would be hoping to build a partnership here and with the start they have managed to get infact they can let a few quiet overs.
Khilan Patel has come into the attack and has picked up the wicket of Rowles. The left-hander tried to take on the left-arm spinner and make the most of the final over in the powerplay, but he ended up getting an outside edge, and the ball went straight to the point fielder.
Henil Patel has taken a bit of pasting in his fourth over. While Devendran was a bit erratic, it was Henil Patel who kept the pressure on, but in the previous over, he too gave a few runs away. India will be hoping to bring in a bowling change sooner rather than later.
India has opted to play with three spinners in this game and two front-line seamers. R Ambrish, who can bowl seam, is an all-rounder. Earlier in the first innings, South Africa used plenty of seam in their innings and to an extent it did work out, but once the spinners came in, the tap was unlocked, and runs came easily. A lot about this surface will come into the limelight when the Indian spinners bowl. As we update, Deepesh Devendran picks Bulbulia.
Deepesh and Henil have been a touch on the shorter side here with the new ball. We have seen the South African new ball bowlers pitch the ball up a lot more and extract a bit of swing, but the Indian seamers have opted to pull their lengths back a bit early on with the new ball.
We are back with the chase. Deepesh Devendran has the new ball for India, and Henil Patel will share from the other end. It is going to be interesting to see how this wicket responds after the 50 overs. Altough it started slowly as the innings went on it got better will we see the same trend.
300 is what India gets. With the start, they managed that, which is a pretty good total. The surface also has been a bit on the slower side, but they managed to sting on a few partnerships first. It was Harvansh and Ambrish who rebuilt well in the middle overs, and then it was Harvansh and Kanishk through the final overs. Although a cameo of sorts would have put the icing on the cake, given the surface, it is a pretty good effort. Bassons for South Africa has been the pick of the bowlers. We will be right back with the chase. Do stay with us.
Basson has picked up four wickets here. He bowled pretty well. The youngster Enaan is the last batter who has fallen. It was a fuller one which the batter tried to whack on the leg-side and could not get anything bat on it and lost his stumps. Neverthless India has gone past 280 here.
We resume overs are not cut off, which is a good thing. We still have 50 overs intact in both innings. The light too has dipped a bit here, and it will be interesting to see if this will help the bowlers when India comes out to bowl in the second innings.
Shubman Gill (C), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul (WK), Shreyas Iyer (VC)*, Washington Sundar, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohd Siraj, Harshit Rana, Prasidh Krishna, Kuldeep Yadav, Rishabh Pant (WK), Nitish Kumar Reddy, Arshdeep Singh, Yashasvi Jaiswal
We have some bad news, folks. As we were closing in on the Indian innings, the match was stopped due to lightning. If there is any further update, we will get back to you soon.
Basson has picked up two wickets here in the previous over with two short balls. First, it was Harvansh who was caught by long-off inside the ring for a brilliant catch, and then it was Kanishk who pulled it straight to the square-leg fielder. India would have loved one of those two to bat till the 50th over.
Another 50 partnership between Kanishk and Harvansh here. They have batted quite brilliantly, both of them here. After a big partnership which Ambrish and Harvansh had, it would have been easier for Kanishk to get carried away. However, did not happen that the batter played each ball on its merit and complemented Harvansh nicely.
Harvansh is now into 90s here. What an innings this has been from him. He came into bat when India were in a bit of pickle, but he negated the tough times quite nicely and is now batting well. In the last few overs in fact he is taking the attack onto the South African bowling and injected momentum into the Indian innings.
Kanishk Chouhan is the new man in for India. He needs to get into the act straight away here. Despite the start India have got in this game, they are looking good to get 280 runs, which will be a pretty good total on this surface. There have been times in the day when the ball was not coming onto the bat.
RS Ambris has fallen here. The batter tried to whack the ball on the leg-side of Mbatha and ended up giving a simple catch to the mid-wicket fielder out there. The partnership which South Africa was craving to break has finally broken here.
This is a good partnership between Harvansh and Ambrish. There has been a lot of talk about the Indian top order and the power that lies in that, but today, with them falling early, it was a good opportunity to see the proficiency of the middle-order batters, and both Harvansh and Ambrish have stepped up nicely.
Both Harvansh and Ambrish have put on 100-run partnership here. This is what doctor ordered for India. Also these runs have come at a quite good tempo for them. The run-rate too which was around fours in this innings has now started to move around that five mark.
We have reached the 2nd water break of the innings, and India has made quite a bit of a comeback in this game. Both Ambrish and Harvansh, one of them atleast from this point on will look to accelerate and have that option of 280 open, which will be pretty good total on this one.
South African seamers have lost a bit of edge here. It does seem like they were hoping that errors would come from the batters and wickets would fall; however, it did not happen. As a result, there seems to be a bit of overtyring and freebies are creeping into the bowling of the hosts.
RS Ambrish has batted quite nicely here in the middle. He has taken control of this innings and is looking to put on a nice partnership with Harvansh, who too has absorbed the pressure nicely. This is a problem sides the once bowling when dont have enforcers through the middle overs partnerships keep lingering on.
India has reached a decent position here. The only question they need to ask themselves here is what they should be looking to get here, which they can defend. The wicket is on the slower side, and with all those early wickets if they can get 250 from here on that would be a pretty good effort from them.
Nice partnership brewing between Ambrish and Harvansh here. They have rotated the strike nicely since coming in, punished the bad balls when they did come in, and most importantly, they have played low-risk options to score their runs, which has been pretty good to see.
South Africa has introduced left-arm spin here. This might be the time the Indian batters Harvansh and Ambrish might look to go after the bowling for a bit and ease out the pressure. The pace of the surface has been quite slow; it might make it a bit harder to get in. But once they are in its a pretty true surface.
Harvansh and Ambrish are in the middle for India. Both of these teenagers need to build a partnership here. India has lost too many wickets in quick succession here. To be fair, South African bowlers have been quite brilliant with the execution of their plans for the surface.
India needs a partnership here. All the bowlers who have come into attack for South Africa bowled pretty tidily. The Indian batters who are looking to stamp their authority have kept losing wickets. The current situation demands that they absorb a bit of pressure here.
India needs a partnership here. All the bowlers who have come into attack for South Africa bowled pretty tidily. The Indian batters who are looking to stamp their authority have kept losing wickets. The current situation demands that they absorb a bit of pressure here.
India has lost two set batters here first it was Kundu who was standing outside his crease, drove one straight back to the bowler, and he hit back at the stumps and Kundu was found wandering, and Trivedi skewd one up in the air straight to the point fielder.
Trivedi has got himself a start here and has looked comfortable. Kundu too played a couple of crisp shots on either side of the wicket, and the pitch seems to be a bit on the slower side, and it might be ideal for India to have a target in mind now itself and bat accordingly.
Powerplay done, India are 44/2 after the initial passage. The ball has moved, and the South African seamers have exploited the conditions well here. Both Kundu and Trivedi, who are in the middle, need to build a partnership here and shepherd the Indian innings through the middle overs.
The South African opening bowlers have bowled quite well here, first up. They have pitched the ball up looking for swing, and the Indian batters did fall in the trap. If India has to make some runs in the upcoming World Cup, they will need to deal with that moving ball upfront in the power play.
Aaron Varghese is the first batter to fall for India. As we update, Suryavanshi too has departed. Bassons has pitched one up, and Suryavanshi, trying to drive a fuller one without feet, ended up edging one behind the stumps. India has lost two in the powerplay here.
It will be an interesting challenge for Vaibhav Suryavanshi. He has demonstrated the technique and method to work out things on flatter decks, but these are the surfaces with more bounce and swing, using a new ball, which will test other areas of his technique.
South Africa has won the toss and opted to bowl first, and the hosts have picked up the first wicket. That is a brilliant start for the home side. The Indians need to be wary, as most of them are quite freestyle players, but these are different conditions.
“Mhatre and Malhotra have sustained wrist injuries and will miss the South Africa tour. The duo will report to the BCCI Centre of Excellence for further management of their injuries and will join the team for the ICC Men’s Under-19 World Cup.”
