Azam gets HC notice on petition over Jat cops

Court has also sought detailed record of the number of policemen who have been transferred from the district following the riots.

The Allahabad High Court Monday issued notice to Cabinet minister Azam Khan on a petition alleging that policemen from only Jat community were being transferred outside Muzaffarnagar at his behest in the aftermath of the riots.

The court has asked the minister to file an affidavit within a week. The case will be heard next on October 10.

Besides,the court has also sought detailed record from the Principal Secretary (Home) and senior officials of the police establishment on the number of policemen who have been transferred from the district following the riots.

The petitioners,who have been transferred to districts like Chitrakoot,Banda,Basti,Hamirpur and Pratapgarh,have alleged that policemen from Jat community were being transferred to eastern UP and Bundelkhand region without any justification.

Passing the order,Justice Sudhir Agarwal said: “Looking at the allegations as also the state of affairs,the manner in which the things have taken place,as also looking at the report published in various newspapers,the matter requires consideration.”
