Lahore, Feb 26 (ANI): The Samjhota Express service, which was suspended due to security concerns following protests in Haryana, resumed its operation. India had suspended the services of Samjhota Express, which runs between Pakistan and India twice a week, on February 22, following widespread protests by the Jat community. Taking about the delay, one of the passengers Sughran Bibi said she had brought her mother-in-law to meet her relatives in Karachi, adding the disturbance in the train service had made them very uncomfortable as they were unprepared for the cold. While another passenger Hamza said their tickets were confirmed, but at midnight they got news that the train service had been suspended due to which he spent five days in travelling.
Kanpur, Feb 24 (ANI): After the protests by the Jat community of Haryana demanding reservation in the other backward classes (OBC) category, upper caste people in Kanpur held a semi-nude protest demanding reservation. The protestors critised Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for all the fake promises. The protesters raised slogans against BJP.
New Delhi, Feb 23 (ANI): In the wake of the ongoing protests by members of the Jat community demanding reservation in government jobs, actor Vidyut Jamwal has urged them not to get influenced by emotions.Vidyut said the people are misguided at times as they do not ponder over their action. Director Vipul Shah said that the government should come out with some solution as soon as possible.The members of the Jat Community have been protesting since the last ten days demanding reservation in government jobs.Vipul and Vidyut were present at the shoot of their upcoming film, 'Commando 2.'The film is directed by Dilip Ghosh and produced by Vipul Shah.
Rohtak (Haryana), Feb 23 (ANI): Breaking his silence after the seven-day long agitation by the Jat community, Haryana Chief Minister ML Khattar on Tuesday offered compensation for the innocents killed in the reservation violence. Khattar added that a committee will also be formed to probe the lapses of police personnel and other district officials regarding the same.
Jhajjar, Feb 22 (ANI): The ongoing protest of the Jat community for reservations in government jobs and institutions continued on Monday as the protestors partially blocked the highway in Jhajjar, Haryana. Samjhauta Express, the train that connects India and Pakistan, was also cancelled due to the ongoing unrest. However, the NH-8 has been open for traffic but NH-1 and NH-10 are still blocked. No roads have been blocked in Gurgaon and the situation is expected to remain normal today.
New Delhi, Feb 21 (ANI): Union Minister for State for Agriculture Sanjiv Baliyan on Sunday told the media that reservation to the Jat community would be given in the upcoming assembly session. In the wake of the escalating pro-reservation protests by the Jat community spreading across Haryana, the Home Minister on Sunday chaired a high-level emergency meeting to discuss the further course of action. Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, Union Minister Sanjeev Baliyan, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Army Chief General Dalbir Singh and Delhi Police Commissioner B.S. Bassi were among those present at the meeting held at Rajanth's residence.
New Delhi, Feb 21 (ANI): Congress leader Kumari Selja on Sunday lashed out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for remaining silent over the agitation in Haryana by Jats, demanding reservation in government jobs and educational institutions. Selja added that despite being present in the country, it seems PM Modi is not here. Another Congress leader Ashok Tanwar appealed to the Jat community to maintain peace and allow the system to function normally.Meanwhile, another Congress leader Kiran Chaudhary alleged that few unsocial elements are trying to pollute the atmosphere, adding that they are spreading the violence under a conspiracy.
Rohtak, Feb 19 (ANI): The protests by Jat community on Friday disrupted road and rail traffic in the Rohtak-Jhajjar region, the epicenter of the protests, besides Bhiwani, Sonipat and Hisar. The protestors have blocked roads at many places and trucks were seen stranded near the Rohtak Bypass. Following clashes during an agitation by the Jat community for reservation, mobile internet services have been blocked in Haryana's Rohtak district as the protests enters the sixth day. The talks between community leaders and the government failed to break the deadlock, banning assembly of five or more persons.
