The mugging of a 44-year-old woman at a Corporation Bank ATM in SJ Park Tuesday is the second such incident in the area in recent times. Nearly three months ago in the early hours of August 27,a woman marketing manager with a logistics company was robbed of gold and Rs 22,800 at almost the same location. The case remains unsolved.
Chandra Kala, whose hand was slashed with a machete as she tried to shield her head from two attackers on August 27,has been contacted by SJ Park Police to try and ascertain if the incidents are linked.
The police have sent her a photograph of the stranger who attacked Jyothi Uday,a manager at a Corporation Bank branch,on Tuesday.
Chandra Kala 45,who works with Hitech Logistics and Marketing Private Limited and lives in RT Nagar, was attacked and robbed as she was opening her first-floor office near LIC Building in SJ Park Police limits at around 7.30 am.
She said two strangers followed her to the entrance of the office in a building next to where the Corporation Bank ATM is.
At 7.30 am on August 27,I was climbing the stairs to reach my office when I noticed two men following me. When I turned around and asked them who they were, they told me in Hindi they had to deliver some goods at my office. As soon as I opened the door to my office, one of the strangers took out a machete and tried to hit me on my head. I put up my left hand and received a serious injury on it, Chandra Kala said.
She said while one of the strangers engaged her,the other kept watch. Bleeding from her injured hand, she then called her businessman husband Sriram and son Venkataramana. I called some colleagues as well who rushed to the scene and took me to Victoria Hospital, Chandra Kala said.
She said she saw CCTV footage of the ATM robbery on Tuesday but could not tell if the attacker was one of the two who mugged her. The police approached me with a photograph of the attacker. I told them the men who robbed me were not the same.
