Krishna frolics with Radha in one glittering pendant while in another,a female figure dances with abandon. Both jewellery pieces — the former by Shuvaprasanna and the latter by Seema Kohli — encompass two distinct meanings of the word “devotion”. “The woman in my pendant in the mythological Maya herself,” says Kohli. Both pieces will be part of an exhibition titled “Devotion: Collector’s Choice”,at Art Positive Gallery in Lado Sarai from August 14 to September 14.

Contemporary art and jewellery have had a close relationship for several decades, with Masters such as SH Raza creating jewellery from their artwork. “The exhibition upholds a woman’s devotion to alankar (adornment) and many artists have created jewellery that express devotion,” says curator Sushma Bahl. The theme, adds Bahl, highlights not only devotion to God but any kind of passion. Hence, apart from pendants, the exhibition also features paintings and sculptures. This is Art Positive’s seventh annual show, and previous editions have been titled “Devotion-Invocation” and “Devotion- Transformation” among others.

Satish Gujral will exhibit bronze sculptures while paintings by Shuvaprasanna will reflect his fascination with Kolkata’s cityscapes, crows and even owls. Other artists include Paresh Maity,Thota Vaikuntam,Ramesh Gorjala and Lalu Prasad Shaw.

The exhibition is at Art Positive Gallery from August 14 to September 14.
