NEW DELHI: Former prime minister and Janata DalS leader H D Deve Gowda has criticised the police action against Baba Ramdev. The use of senseless violence against his supporters,barely days after he had been accorded a heros welcome at the Delhi airport by senior Cabinet ministers,was avoidable and undesirable,he said.

Method simplistic,says Omar

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday expressed his disapproval of the police action on Baba Ramdevs fast. However,Omar termed Ramdevs methods as simplistic. Corruption in public life is a huge issue8230;It is far too simplistic to suggest one party is in favour of corruption amp; another of rooting it out. This is just opportunistic opposition, he tweeted.

Gogoi blames Ramdev

GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Monday justified the government action and blamed the yoga guru for the situation. The Centre and Delhi government had the responsibility of taking appropriate action when they felt that a law and order situation was in the offing8230;Had he not run away in the garb of a woman,those innocent women and children would not have been hurt, he said.

Chouhan to fast in support

BHOPAL: Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Monday joined his party,the BJP,to protest the action against Baba Ramdev and his supporters in Delhi. Chouhan called the use of force against women,children and the old a violation of democratic values and the Constitution. He will visit Delhi and fast on Tuesday in support of the yoga guru.

BSY govt passes resolution

Bangalore: The BJP government in Karnataka on Monday passed a resolution in the Assembly in the absence of the Opposition Congress and JDS terming police action against Baba Ramdev as an attack on democracy. The Assembly condemns police action against the democratic face of the protest against black money,Baba Ramdev,and demands a inquiry into the incident, said the resolution.

Supporter kills self in Chhattisgarh

RAIPUR: Apparently upset over the crackdown on Baba Ramdev,his disciple committed suicide by consuming poison in Durg district of Chhattisgarh,the police said Monday. The incident took place on Sunday when the deceased,identified as Sukhuram,consumed pesticide in front of the Collectors office and was rushed to hospital,where he was pronounced dead,the police said. A suicide note recovered from him,was addressed to Ramdev,where he expressed distress over his undemocratic arrest.

Baba has right to political career: Sena

MUMBAI: The Shiv Sena on Monday said it disapproved of fast as a political weapon,but argued that Ramdev was a citizen of India,and had every right to create a political space for himself. If a foreigner Sonia Gandhi can become the political Godmother of Congress leaders,why cannot Ramdev,a citizen of this country,practise politics? the editorial of party mouthpiece,Saamna,asked. It added that Ramdev was responsible for the fiasco,as there was no need to launch another hunger strike within a few weeks of Anna Hazares successful agitation.
