JEE Main 2026: These are the most-opted courses in IIT Patna this year

Programmes combining engineering with management education through collaborations with IIM Bodh Gaya and IIM Mumbai also recorded higher preference counts.

At the Indian Institute of Technology Patna (IIT Patna), Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) continues to be the most preferred programme in 2025, registering 17,579 choices, up from 15,482 in 2024, marking a 13.54 per cent increase year-on-year. The data indicate a sustained rise in demand for computing-led programmes at the institute.

Among other core engineering branches, Artificial Intelligence and Data Science saw one of the sharpest rises in preference, with 15,108 choices in 2025 compared to 13,175 last year, reflecting a 14.67 per cent growth. Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) also recorded strong demand, with choices increasing from 13,055 in 2024 to 14,784 in 2025, a growth of 13.24 per cent. 

Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) followed a similar trend, registering 12,850 choices, up 12.71 per cent from 11,400 in the previous year.

Traditional branches also witnessed notable growth. Civil Engineering saw choices rise from 9,439 to 10,605, an increase of 12.35 per cent, while Mechanical Engineering recorded 12,158 choices, up from 10,989, marking a 10.63 per cent rise. Chemical Engineering and Metallurgical and Materials Engineering posted more moderate but steady increases of 8.75 per cent and 8.78 per cent, respectively.

Integrated and interdisciplinary programmes continued to gain traction in 2025. The BTech (CSE) and MTech in CSE programme received 8,891 choices, an 11.04 per cent increase over last year. Similarly, integrated programmes such as BTech (ECE) – MTech in VLSI, BTech (ME) – MTech in Mechatronics, and BTech Mathematics and Computing – MTech in Mathematics and Computing saw growth ranging between 8 and 11 per cent.

The BTech Chemical Engineering – MBA in Hospital and Health Care Management programme saw the highest growth in this segment at 15.14 per cent, while BTech (Civil Engineering) – MBA and BTech (Metallurgical and Materials Engineering) – MBA recorded increases of over 14 per cent each. The BS in Economics with MBA programme registered 4,364 choices, up 9.7 per cent from 2024.

Overall, the choice data for 2025 reflects growing interest in computer science, AI-driven programmes, and integrated engineering–management pathways, alongside sustained demand for core engineering disciplines at IIT Patna.
