The arrest of three Chinese nationals in Leh area of Jammu and Kashmir on June 12 has been described as a cause of concern by the security agencies. The arrest came days ahead of the visit of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to the state.
According to the Central agencies,the three Chinese nationals were reportedly in their early twenties,and were carrying currency,maps,arms. They were picked up by Armys patrolling team that handed them over to the ITBP. Sources said that they will be first charged under sections of the Indian Passport Act.
Preliminary questioning has revealed that the three were trying to enter India and cross over to Pakistan. They have disclosed that since they did not have valid passports,they sneaked into the Indian territory with the help of an agent. Agencies said they were verifying these claims and suspect that the three men were going to join Pakistani militants groups. Officials said that they will be brought to Delhi.
Authorities said that a communication has been sent to the Chinese embassy. We have sought the details of the three,including their family background and previous involvement in crime,if any, said a Home Ministry official.
An ITBP official said,The three men are in the custody of the ITBP at Leh. They were caught near the Line of Actual Control in Murgo sector. The three were carrying dry ration. We have not been able to establish a communication with them as they speak a different language. Arrangements are being made to fly them to Delhi.
The Intelligence Bureau,and police are said to be interrogating the three men. However,when contacted Vivek Gupta,SP Leh,said,We have no information about the detention of anybody.
