1 arrested in J-K car bomb case

Officers said militants of Lashkar-e-Toiba LeT were responsible for this and the civil secretariat was their likely target.

The J-K Police claimed to have identified the men behind the failed attempt to blow up a car with a powerful bomb in Srinagar on May 17. Officers said militants of Lashkar-e-Toiba LeT were responsible for this and the civil secretariat was their likely target.

They have arrested a man from Pulwama claiming him to be one of the militants who had assembled the Improvised Explosive Device IED,fitted it in a car and transported it to Srinagar. They are now looking for other members of the militant module.

A Pakistani Lashkar militant is the brain behind this car bomb. A militant module was behind this. We have already arrested one of its local members, said a police source.

The police did not identify the arrested man.

On May 17,the police averted a major tragedy when it detected a powerful IED in a car at Channapora,in the outskirts of the city. It weighed more than 70 kg. Had it exploded,the police said,it could have caused massive damage to life and property.
