NEW DELHI, January 19: Victorious Indian cricket captain Mohammad Azharuddin today hailed India8217;s triumph in Dhaka as quot;the best win of my careerquot; but said the team will have to quot;carry onquot; and sustain the performance.
quot;It was a thriller. But we gave a collective effort and being my 273rd one-dayer, I couldn8217;t have asked for a better one, quot; a beaming Azharuddin told reporters here today.
He complimented the efforts of Saurav Ganguly and Robin Singh as brilliant and said the cool approach of the young Hrishikesh Kanitkar helped India pull off the incredible win. Nayan Mongia, who knocked off nine runs in the 47th over, came in for special praise.
The 34-year-old said the most important point was to keep maintaining the competitive approach. quot;We have started the year on a winning note and hope to end it also the same way.
quot;We can only try our best. Once you8217;re winning things are okay, quot; he said, in a reference to the criticism that followed last year8217;s dismal show.
Azhar said the win wiped out any mentalblock India may have had against Pakistan and agreed the win would mark a turnaround in India8217;s approach in one-dayers.
quot;At this level all have to be mentally prepared. But we have been winning quite a few matches against Pakistan in the last two seasons. But we have to continue winning, that8217;s the most important thing, quot; he said.
He was pleased with India8217;s consistency in Dhaka. quot;We had one bad game. We can8217;t have everything our way.quot; But the consistency augured well for the future, he added.
