21k security personnel to be deployed as Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad police gear up for civic polls

The Pune City Police contingent comprises 14 Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs), 37 Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) including 7 probationary ACPs, 166 Police Inspectors, 723 Assistant Inspectors and Sub Inspectors, 12,500 constables, 3250 Home Guards, four companies of the SRPF comprising 400 personnel. The Pune City police area has been divided into 88 sectors and 100 sensitive locations have been identified. The total number of officers and personnel in Pune police deployment comes to around 17,090.

The Police contingent of Pimpri Chinchwad police comprises one Joint Commissioner of Police, two Additional Commissioners of Police, eight DCPs, 18 ACPs, 50 Police Inspectors, 241 Assistant Inspector and Sub Inspectors, 3750 constables, two companies and two platoons of SRPF comprising 260 personnel. 10 sensitive locations have been identified in the jurisdiction. The total number of officers and personnel in Pimpri Chinchwad police deployment are 4,330.

Both police jurisdictions have undertaken a series of preventive action in the run up to the elections.

These included action against illegal activities including illegal liquor business and narcotics trade.

During the Model Code of Conduct period, Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad police seized Rs 67 lakh and Rs

16 lakh respectively in cash. Both police units took our route marches from sensitive locations.

Preventive action was also taken against multiple historysheeters during the same period.

Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissioner Vinoy Kumar Choubey said, “Police and election machinery are fully prepared for the peaceful conduct of the elections. Strictest possible action will be taken against those interfering with the electoral process.”
