SYDNEY, JAN 6: Shane Warne was recalled to Australia8217;s limited-overs line-up and Jason Gillespie was ruled out when selectors announced two teams on Saturday for the upcoming cricket internationals.
Australia A, the second-string lineup, will take on the West Indies on January 9 in Adelaide and Zimbabwe in Brisbane three days later.
Warne, Australia8217;s leading Test wicket-taker, was named in the top team despite only having played two games since coming back from a finger injury.
The former Australian vice-captain missed the entire five-Test series against the West Indies, but was favoured over rival leg-spinner Stuart MacGill for the first four One-Day Internationals.
Gillespie, who picked up 20 wickets in four Tests against the West Indies since his comeback from a broken leg, was ruled out of the first four games of the limited-overs series with a hamstring injury.
His place in the squad was taken by Ian Harvey.
The bowling ranks should also be bolstered by the addition of Brett Lee, who withdrew from the Australian Test team after the first Test victory in Brisbane last November to rest a back injury.
Lee will take his place in the 13-man squad provided he passes a fitness Test in Melbourne on Sunday. Rookie paceman Nathan Bracken was the surprise selection in the top team.
Steve Waugh was retained as captain of the limited-overs team with Adam Gilchrist as vice-captain.
The Australians are World No 1 at Test and limited-overs cricket, although Waugh said Australia8217;s record in recent one-dayers 8212; five losses in eight games 8212; was below expectations.
Australia A will be captained by Simon Katich. Test openers Matt Hayden and Michael Slater were also named to the A8217; team.
Teams from:
Australia: Steve Waugh Capt, Adam Gilchrist, Michael Bevan, Nathan Bracken, Ian Harvey, Brett Lee, Darren Lehmann, Damien Martyn, Glenn McGrath, Ricky Ponting, Andrew Symonds, Shane Warne, Mark Waugh.
Australia A8217;: Simon Katich Capt, Michael Slater, Matthew Hayden, Greg Blewett, Brad Hodge, Shane Lee, Wade Seccombe, Andy Bichel, Stuart MacGill, Adam Dale, Damien Fleming, Paul Wilson.
