CHENNAI, SEPT 6: Former Rajya Sabha member and cine star of yesteryear Vyjayantimala Bali today formally joined the BJP in the presence of Union Home Minister L K Advani after she tendered her resignation from the Congress dismayed and disillusioned8217; over its criticism of Vajpayee government8217;s effective handling of the Kargil conflict.

She told mediapersons here this evening that on an issue like Kargil, Congress should have shown more maturity8217; but unfortunately even in this hour of national honour they were having only petty and narrow political ends in their view8217;.

When asked whether she was offered any post in the Bharatiya Janata Party, Bali said No8217;. She also clarified that she did not quit the Congress just because she was not offered a seat for the Lok Sabha polls, but only after her RS membership had ended.

The reaction of the Congress president to the victory in Kargil, had made her feel pretty bad. Sonia could not digest the Kargil victory, she said.

Seen from any angle, it is the BJP alone that can save the country today and that too under the brilliant leadership of Vajpayeeji8216;, she said.

Bali said Sonia had not contributed anything for the development of the country and Congress party. She was in full agreement with Sharad Pawar and P A Sangma that people of foreign origin should not hold a high office, she said.

Asked whether it was morally correct for her to have resigned from Congress after enjoying the fruits, she said she had resigned only after her tenure as Upper House member expired. Therefore, the question of ditching the party did not arise.

In her resignation letter to Sonia she said, in the recent months the Congress and its leadership had shown an increasing greed for power causing instability and immense harm8217; to the interests of the country.
