
VADODARA, April 13: Over 75 illegal constructions were demolished by the Vadodara Municipal Corporation VMC on a 1.5 km stretch in the Nava Yard area on Tuesday. This was the second consecutive day that the civic body undertook a demolition drive in the city.
About 80 illegal constructions between Shastri Bridge and Johnson Electricals Company in Nava Yard, which were hindering the road widening plans of the Vadodara Municipal Corporation, had been served notices to clear the way. Following this, a majority of the parties concerned had themselves undertaken partial demolitions. The Vadodara Municipal Corporation8217;s bulldozers today completely razed what was left of the unauthorised constructions.
Two bulldozers, one dumper and about 80 personnel were deployed for the task. The compound wall of the Sayaji Iron Mill, which falls on the roadline, was also demolished.
Discussions on conducting clean-up operations and dealing with water-logging in the election wards under administrative wards no 6 and 10 dominated the meeting of the West Zone of the Vadodara Municipal Corporation VMC on Tuesday.
The meeting was chaired by Mayor Bharti Vyas and attended by Deputy Mayor Dinesh Choksi, Standing Committee Chairman N V Patel, Opposition leader Kanchan Parmar besides councillors and officials from the civic body8217;s administrative wing. Councillors made individual representations of the problems and works undertaken in their respective wards.
It was decided at the meeting that the administration would undertake afternoon clean up operations every Tuesday, Thursday and Friday on a weekly basis in the election ward of the councillor8217;s choice. It was also decided to present details of the work undertaken by the safai workers and supervisors in various beats to the councillor of the respective area.
The councillors were also asked to furbish details about water-logging problems in their areas to the civic authorities so as to help the latter plan ways to tackle the same.
