VADODARA, July 29: The Ahmedabad-based Environmental Planning Collaborative today submitted to the Vadodara Municipal Corporation a draft proposal for the development of a network of roads within city limits.

Mayor Bharti Vyas, Deputy Mayor Dinesh Chokshi, Standing Committee chairman N V Patel and City Engineer B K Desai held discussions with Bimal Patel and two others representatives of the agency. Vyas told reporters that the proposal was aimed at providing separate connecting routes to the main roads of the city to ease traffic congestion.

The VMC has plans to lay roads similar to Ahmedabad’s C G Road, which was developed by Bimal Patel. According to Chokshi, if the collaboration with the agency materialised, the VMC would also ask them to give details for laying model roads.

If the specifications of the agency are followed in laying the roads, the cost to the VMC would be almost Rs 1.50 crore for one kilometer.

The proposal addressed to Municipal Commissioner G R Aloria states that it would help to standardize road sections for all roads of 18 meter and above.

The representatives would visit Vadodara after some time, the Mayor said, adding that they had suggested that it would be ideal if the computer software of roads matched with that of water works and drainage system. “If the details are available, utility services can be provided adequately in a planned manner,” Vyas stated.

Patel suggested that the primary data available with the VMC could be updated and substantiated with the help of aerial photographs and satellite imagery. He further said that previous land-use patterns would also be studied and traffic survey analysis undertaken while preparing the report.
