
VADODARA, Aug 25: Three police constables and five Vadodara Municipal Corporation VMC cattle-squad employees were injured in an assault by cattle owners in Baranpura under the Wadi Police Station on Wednesday morning.
Deputy Municipal Commissioner Administration H S Patel dashed off a letter to Police Commissioner J Mahapatra demanding stern and quick action against those involved in the incident.
Remaniabhai Phugabhai Rathwa and Rameshchandra Shantilal, both constables on deputation to VMC, were seriously injured and have been admitted to the SSG Hospital for treatment. The others were discharged after first-aid. According to the Wadi police, the VMC cattle squad, consisting of nine people including the policemen, was on routine duty impounding stray cattle which create traffic problems in the Baranpura area.
However, the cattle owners resisted them and attacked them with sticks and stones. Rathwa, in his FIR, named seven people for involvement in the assault. They are : Ravi Hemchandra Gadge, Avinash, Vitthal, Vijay, Hemchandra Gadge, Ramchandra Rao and Vallabhrao, all residents of Baranpura. However, all of them are absconding. DyMC Patel, while demanding firm action against the attacers, has stated that action could be taken under provisions of the Bombay Provincial Municipal Corporation Act and the Bombay Police Act.
