Violence during auditions in Delhi

A group of youngsters on Friday indulged in violence at an auditorium in the city, where an audition for a reality show was on, prompting police to use force to disperse them.

A number of people, who had gathered for the audition of MTV8217;s 8216;Roadies8217; programme at an auditorium in south Delhi8217;s Hauz Khaz, were injured in the police action, a senior police official said.

The incident took place at about 1 pm when a group of youth entered the auditorium and started smashing the window panes as the group discussion was progressing, the official said, adding the attackers also burnt some posters and tried to damage a motorcycle.

Police was informed immediately as about 100 private security personnel deployed at the auditorium failed to contain violence.

Police resorted to canecharging in which a number of youths are injured. However, officials refused to provide the exact number of those injured in the incident.

The injured were rushed to AIIMS hospital where some were provided primary treatment as their wounds were not of serious nature.

The violence during the programme prompted the organisers to cancel the audition. The new date for the audition will be announced later, organisers said.

Around 5,000 youngsters had assembled at the auditorium for the audition.

The audition in the capital was the fifth of a total of six such exercise to select participants for the programme.

Auditions have earlier been done in Kolkata, Bangalore, Ahmedabad and Chandigarh.
