
Onam wishes by BNWA
The Baroda Nair Welfare Association has wished happy Onam to all Keralites residing in the city. The association will not celebrate the festival this year as a mark of respect to soldiers who were martyred at Kargil. It has donated Rs 5,0001 to the Kargil Disabled Soldiers8217; Fund.
Khera seminar
The Institute for Human Potential and Development will organise a three-day seminar, Blueprint for Success8217;, from September 24 at Hotel Surya Palace. Award planned
The Baroda Welfare Society proposes to award all Muslim students who secured above 70 per cent in their SSC and HSC examinations this year. Such students should send their marksheets and details of their schools to the Baroda Welfare Society, Firdaus Manzil, opposite Sharda Mandir High School, Salatwada, by September 15.
Open house
Exim Club, Vadodara, will organise an open house8217; to discuss operating problems on excise/customs on August 28. A press release said the seminar would focus on operating problems that cropped up even in the export-friendly environment the government was trying to create. The open house is likely to be addressed by the commissioner of central excise and customs, Vadodara and the commissioner of customs export promotion.
Railway raid
During a surprise raid, the Vadodara railway authorities recently recovered Rs 1.87 lakhs in fines from illegal passengers. Eight people were prosecuted in the court of the railway magistrate who imposed a fine of Rs 850 on each person. The railways have warned that such raids will continue.
Serial on Narmad
Surat: Aangikam, a city-based music and drama academy, will produce a 26-episode serial called Veer Narmad on the life and works of Kavi Narmad, whose birth anniversary is on Tuesday. The Gujarati serial, directed by Mumbaikar Hina Chhaya, will also be dubbed in Hindi. It will be telecast on Doordarshan in Gujarat and Delhi. Union Textile Minister Kashiram Rana was reportedly instrumental in getting the serial slotted on Doorshan in Hindi and Gujarati. More than 70 artists will act in the serial, whose shooting begins in September. The serial is to be produced by Bharati Rana. Music director Gaurang Vyas will set selected poems of Narmad to music.
