State seeks Central nod for entry tax
Gandhinagar: The State Cabinet on Wednesday approved a proposal to seek the Centre8217;s nod for introducing entry tax to replace the existing octroi system in the State. Chief Minister Keshubhai Patel said it was mandatory to seek Central approval, but did not specify how long it would take to abolish octroi.

27 arrested
Vadodara: Twenty-seven residents of Suliyad and surrounding villages, all members of the same community, were arrested by the Panchmahals police on Wednesday in connection with Tuesday8217;s mob violence over a minor issue. Stating that three members of another community were yet to be arrested, District Collector A K Rakesh said police and SRP personnel were still present in the village to maintain peace.

Diesel seized
District supply officials inspected Jal Hi Power Petrochemicals, one of the main chemical units at Savli, and seized 18,000 litre of diesel, according to District Supply Officer D G Khachar.

Joint District Judge R M Parmar has been promoted and appointed District and Sessions Judge of Vadodara District Court with immediate effect.

Arms banned
Resident District Collector C R Kharsan has banned carrying of arms and holding of public meetings with immediate effect till May 8, 1999 in the entire district.
