
Advocates keep away from courts
Advocates practicing at the Vadodara district court abstained from courts on Tuesday and wore black badges in protest against murderous assault on the life of First Class Judicial Magistrate Nilesh C Prajapati in Siddhpur town in North Gujarat on Monday morning by two unidentified assailants. Prajapati, before being selected in Gujarat judicial services, practiced law at the Vadodara district court and is a member of the Baroda Bar Association.
Phone directory
Mayor Bharti Vyas released the Vadodara Telecom District8217;s Telephone Directory for the year 1998 in the city on Tuesday. The new telephone directory includes Sesa Seat Yellow Pages featuring over 18,000 business entries. Copies of the new directory including the yellow pages will now be made available for reference at STD booths, in book stores and hotel rooms. Vyas stated that while the DoT had expanded its base in the city, it is high time E-mail and Internet services were also made available here.
Dal arrests
Nearly 20 workers of the Janata Dal8217;s city unit were arrested by the police on Tuesday when they tried to lock the Employment Office in the Narmada Bhavan, according to a party release. The Dal was protesting against alleged bias in giving jobs to the unemployed. They were later bailed out in the court, the release added.
Inaugurated
The seventh batch of the Post-Graduate Diploma Course in Industrial Safety offered by the Gujarat Safety Council was inaugurated by GSC General Secretary P T Shah on Tuesday. Shah said that the safety officer was the key person in any organisation to carry out the management8217;s safety policy and thus prevent injuries to workers.
JD dharna
The city unit of the Janata Dal will stage a dharna outside the District Collectorate on Wednesday in protest against the rising prices of essential commodities, alleged corruption in the BJP government and increasing unemployment. Meanwhile, the youth morcha of the Rashtriya Janata Party has organised a Ramdhun8217; to protest against the price rise in front of the Mahatma Gandhi Nagar Gruh.
