Power theft
The Gujarat Electricity Board detected power theft to the tune of Rs 2.52 lakh from defaulters in checks carried out between June 29 and July 5. As many as 3,567 cases of power theft were detected, which include 138 cases of power theft from agriculture and 491 of industries. The Board also checked 2,938 meters.

School function
A function to mark the 96th birth anniversary of noted educationist and social worker Bhau Lilaram Chandiramani was held on July 17 at the Shri Ladharam Higher Secondary School. A cultural programme was presented by school students.

Elected
P N Rawal was unanimously elected president of the Sarabhai Chemicals Employees co-operative Supply stores Limited for 1998-99. Vitthal Godavale was elected secretary, Father E G Kuriakose treasurer, while B P Trivedi was elected ex-officio-secretary.

Books given
State Bank of India’s IPCL branch distributed notebooks and pens to 100 students of the Koyali Boys School at a function organised on Monday. A cultural programme was organised by the students on the occasion.

Cultural function
The District Information Department, Surabhi Kala Kendra, P P Shroff High School, both Padra, and the Government High School, in village Ranu, have organised a two-day cultural function and a patriotic song contest from July 25.

Eye camp held
A large number of people suffering from eye ailments were given treatment, medicines free of charge at a camp, organised jointly by members of the District Blindness Control Society, the Jamnabai Hospital and the Banayan City Junior Chamber at Gandhi Nagar Gruh recently.
