
BHOPAL, OCT 30: Indian Railways today proved its superiority by bagging the men8217;s and women8217;s overall championship with 159 and 179 points respectively at the conclusion of the third and final day8217;s action in the 39th National Open Athletic Championship today. Athletes from Railways garnered 49 medals including 26 gold.
In the men8217;s section, Services finished second with 105 points and Indian Police 85 points third.
In the women8217;s section, Indian Police 78 and Life Insurance Corporation 33 came a distant second and third respectively.
A total of 14 gold medals were decided today of which nine were bagged by Railways, three to Services and two to Indian Police.
Jasmine Kaur Railways established a new meet record in the 10 km walk with a timing of 51.35 minutes thus eclipsing the record of 52.45 minutes set up last year by Paramjeet Kaur Railways.
The silver was bagged by Baladevi 52.45 and the bronze by Maharashtra8217;s Rani Bala 54.19.
Anil Kumar Services and veteran PT UshaRailways won the 100m respectively. Anil completed the race in 10.50 secs 8212; well short of his National mark of 10.33. Anand Menezes Rlys, 10.71 and Manoj Kumar Police, 10.73 followed Anil for the silver and bronze respectively.
Usha breasted the tape in 11.70. Her National record is 11.39 established at Jakarta in 1985. Railways8217; Saraswati Devi 11.77 and TN8217;s Samanthagam 12.04 took the second and third places respectively.
Rosa Kutty and KM Beenamol, both of Railways, took the gold and silver respectively in the women8217;s 800 m. They were followed by Sunita Dahiya for the bronze.
In the heptathalon event for women, Railways8217; GG Pramila 5623 points and Soma Biswas 5321 points took the gold and silver while Kerala8217;s Rose Mary Antony 4035 took the bronze.
Manjit Singh Rls bagged the gold in the 400 m hurdles in 52.06 seconds while colleague Sishpal 52.34 seconds got silver. The bronze went to Abhishek Pandey LIC.
The 800 m for men was won by Manoj Lal Rlys with a timing of1:50.65. The silver went to KN Binu Steel Plant 1:50.83 and the bronze to K Rammurthy of Steel Plant 1:50.96.
Raman Deep Singh 73.91 m and Satbir 73.69 m of Indian Police bagged the gold and silver in the javelin throw while the bronze went to LIC8217;s Brahma Dubey 71.85 m.
