US Sikh bodies backs hukamnama

AMRITSAR, JAN 19: Various Gurdwara Parbandhak Committees, Singh Sabhas and other Sikh organisations of USA have extended full support to the hukamnama issued by Jathedar of Akal Takht, Bhai Ranjit Singh on December 31.

A press release issued by Shiromani Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee SGPC here today, giving the reference of a fax message received from these Sikh organisations in America, stated that the Sikhs held a meeting in New York and resolved that the hukamnama issued by Bhai Ranjit Singh was impartial and not favouring any of the feuding Shiromani Akali Dal factions.

It stated that they also felt that the edict was right on asking both SAD President Parkash Singh Badal and SGPC President Gurcharan Singh Tohra to observe truce upto April 15 to celebrate the tercentenary of the birth of Khalsa with high spirits.

They also appealed to Bhai Ranjit Singh to take strict action against those opposing the edict and assured to give him a warm welcome on his arrival in America and expressed full faith in his leadership.

The other Sikh organisations which extended support to the edict are the World Sikh Council, Sikh Youth of America, Gurchetan Lahir, Shiromani Akali Dal, Akhand Kirtani Jatha, Sikh foundation, Shree Guru Gobind Singh Foundation, Centre of Sikh Studies, Sikh Welfare Foundation, Guru Nanak Parchar Mission, Kalgidhar Gatka Dal, Sikh Youth Federation, Gadar Memorial Foundation, Akali Dal Badal, Akali Dal Mann, Khalsa Vidya Kendar and Gurmati Vichar Kendar.

Meanwhile, few Sikh organisations have also appealed to President of USA Bill Clinton to issue a visa to Bhai Ranjit Singh. Jasprit Singh, coordinator of these foundations informed, that in a letter written to him, they stated that Bhai Ranjit Singh was visiting America to tell about the Khalsa functions and bring these organisations closer.
